Barnhart Students Take Learning Outside

The Barnhart Middle School Yearbook Club was looking for a teambuilding opportunity and a chance to develop leadership skills.  We found both with Alpine Training Services of Glendora, California.  The full-day event took place in Texas Canyon, near Valencia, California, with ATS instructors.

The need for team building is just that, to build a team that is happy and effective.  It is to create a sense of understanding and awareness for teams to know and use as they face the dynamics of their days.  We used an adventure format with ATS to create scenarios outside our comfort zones to develop self-discovery, teamwork, honesty and respect.

Barnhart students learned the technical knots and belaying tactics used to safely ascend and descend a rock face.  We challenged ourselves by technically ascending the rock face using technical gear and safety equipment including ropes, harnesses, and helmets.
