The Middle Ages have once again come to life for Barnhart 7th graders because of alum and current Flintridge Prep student Dillon Cranston-Cuebas. Sharing a his passion for historical swords and knives, Dillon brought his collection of medieval weapons to share with seventh graders. His collection includes pieces used by Japanese samurai and ninjas, as well as, those used by European knights. Rounding out the weaponry commonly used in this era, Dillon shared a long-bow and how the design made it possible to attack from afar with a much different strategy than hand-to-hand fighting. All of this was done by comparing the evolution of weapons from the knives/swords of the Romans to the swords symbolically carried by generals in the Civil War. There is nothing better than bringing history off the page and into the hands of students.
