Welcome to middle school science. In preparation for an in-depth study of science in high school, middle school raises the bar substantially by emphasizing two disciplines:

• Life Science in 7th grade
• Earth Science in 8th grade

Barnhart’s elementary science program allowed students to make concrete associations through:

• Facts and terms
• Investigations
• Experimentation

Middle school science builds on theses skills and develops abstract ideas:

• Science classes meets every day
• Uses a constructivist style; rooted in an activities-based approach

Academic rigor in science ensures the development of thinking skills as well as an understanding of our complex and dynamic natural world. By applying previously acquired knowledge, skills and values, our middle school students will experience personal growth through a direct and active involvement in the ever-changing world of science.
