Private Middle School
Since its founding in 1959, Barnhart School has been providing an exceptional educational experience while encouraging students to develop independence and responsibility. We understand this to be especially important during the middle school years, when your child is transitioning from elementary school and preparing for high school. We believe the best way to prepare students for their developmental period is to equip them with a love of learning and a compassion for others. The Barnhart private middle school experience is rich in diversity, academic strength, teamwork, developing complex thinking skills, making connections, seeking patterns, encouraging self-reflection, and building students of strong character.
Private Junior High Academics
Barnhart maintains small class sizes and a low student-teacher ratio in order to provide an exceptional learning experience. Teachers are able to get to know their students and tailor their lesson plans to the unique learning styles in their classroom. Barnhart's Middle School program includes a rigorous academic, high school preparatory curriculum in English, Ancient, World and American History, Earth, Life and Physical Science, Algebra, Spanish and daily P.E.
The academic program at Barnhart School prepares students well for local college-prepatory high schools. Students from Barnhart are accepted across all of the Los Angeles county high schools and are well prepared to participate in high school sports and other extracurriculars such as music, debate team, and student council. Middle school students leave Barnhart with a full year of high school Algebra and Spanish I. Due to our rigorous Middle School program, Barnhart students are frequently placed in advanced levels of these subjects as well as honors levels in English, History and Science.
In addition to academic excellence, important aspects of our private junior high school program include our Student Council, our Buddy Program and experiential field trips. Each year we pair a 7th grade student with a kindergarten student as part of a leadership, mentoring and socialization program. During the first week in October each of our middle school grades attends a week-long trip.
