Barnhart has been providing an exceptional educational experience while encouraging students to develop independence and responsibility. We understand this to be especially important during the middle school years. We believe the best way to prepare students for their developmental period is to equip them with a love of learning and compassion for others. Barnhart's middle school experience is rich in diversity, academic strength, teamwork, developing complex thinking skills, making connections, seeking patterns, encouraging self-reflection, and building students of strong character.
Middle School Academics
Barnhart maintains small class sizes and a low student-teacher ratio in order to provide an exceptional learning experience. Teachers are able to get to know their students and tailor their lesson plans to the unique learning styles in their classrooms. Barnhart's Middle School program includes a rigorous academic, high school preparatory curriculum in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, Spanish, and daily P.E.
The academic program at Barnhart School prepares students well for college-preparatory high schools. Students from Barnhart are accepted across all of the Los Angeles County high schools and are well prepared to participate in high school sports and other extracurriculars such as music, debate team, and student council. Middle school students leave Barnhart with a full year of high school Algebra and Spanish I. Due to our rigorous Middle School program, Barnhart students are frequently placed in advanced levels of these subjects as well as honors levels in Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
In addition to academic excellence, important aspects of our middle school program include week-long field trips, Student Council, and the 7th Grade & Kindergarten Buddy Program, each year we pair a 7th-grade student with a kindergarten buddy as part of Barnhart's leadership, mentoring, and socialization program.
